Why the Best Family Photos Come from a Little Bit of Chaos

Salt Lake City & Utah Family Photographer

If you’ve ever said, “We can’t do family photos — my kids won’t sit still,” I’m here to lovingly disagree. After photographing families all over Utah — from downtown Salt Lake City and the Avenues to the mountain trails of Park City and the quiet pockets of the Wasatch Front — I can promise you this:

The best family photos rarely come from perfectly behaved kids or Pinterest-worthy posing.

They actually come from real life — the chaos, the noise, the belly laughs, the not-looking-at-the-camera moments. That’s where it all comes together.

Kids go a little wild. Parents (try to) loosen up. Someone ends up barefoot. Someone snorts while laughing. And somewhere in all of that beautiful disorder… your actual family shows up. Wildly imperfect. Totally beautiful. Absolutely unforgettable.

That’s what I photograph — not the performance, but the real-deal- truth.

Why “Perfect” Isn’t the Goal

You don’t need a magazine-style family.

You don’t need matching outfits or perfect weather.

You don’t even need your kids to “behave.”

You just need to show up as you are.

I’ll guide, prompt, direct, and then step back when the moment is magic on its own.

Because as a Salt Lake City lifestyle family photographer, I’m not here to make your kids sit still. I’m here to give you images where you feel something — images that look like your life, not a posed version of it.

What a Utah Family Session With Me Is Really Like

Locations you’ll love: Millcreek Canyon, Memory Grove, Antelope Island, Park City trails, the Great Salt Lake, your neighborhood, or your living room.

Session flow: relaxed, playful, movement-based, zero pressure to perform.

Style: candid, documentary-leaning, emotionally honest.

What you receive: a gallery full of tiny gestures, in-between moments, and the kind of images that get framed (and cried over)

Utah Parents: A Few Dates Left Before Year-End

If you’ve been meaning to book family photos before the holidays — this is your sign. I have limited availability left for 2025 family photography in Salt Lake City, Park City, and surrounding Utah areas.

Let’s turn the mayhem into memories you’ll treasure. Because one day, the mess, the noise, the running, the clinging, the giggles, the snack breaks, the “just one more hug” stage… will be the part you miss most.

Let’s save it while it’s still here.
